When looking for a school in

When looking for a school in the Central Valley for our children, we considered many, visited several and enrolled them into Blue Valley School. For us, Blue Valley offered a combination of Costa Rican and Latino students with a quality English based education program. The student base is about 85% Tico, with less than 10% North Americans. This gave us local culture and Spanish at recess, while keeping our children up on academics, to prepare them for college in the US.

The school has excellent academic standards, and they are part of the International Baccalaureate program, which assured us of universal academic standards. The school organized “SSL” (Spanish as a Second Language) for our children and once a week math tutoring for our son. The faculty can be challenging in both behavior and academics. They are nurturing at younger ages, and give increasing responsibility annually. In general, the other families we know are happy to have their children stretched and held accountable for their actions

There is a rich program of culture, sports and extracurricular activities. The campus is modern and attractive. However, the sports fields are a bit cramped. In general, they do a good job of communicating with parents, although like any school, the more involved you are, the more connected you will feel. We found the typical family to be Central American, with one or both parents fluent in English from business or travel. They are usually from the professional upper middle class, with the intention to send their children to college in the US. We believe that our children would be well prepared to attend a North American university if they graduated from Blue Valley.
